El Vedado is also the everyday life's area of Havana. The real heart of the real city. You can live you life inside the area, with no need of going other city's areas, so it provides you with a good chance of watching first hand the cubans everyday's life.
El vedado, indeed, is a perfect place for walking, and discovering lots of not-touristic-stuff, so if you have time in your visit to Havana, and afterwards the must-do of going to "havana vieja" you should spend some time walking El Vedado
